Winemaker's Dinner with Bodegas Lan Rioja

Legendary producer of phenomenal Riojas of both traditional and modern styles, Bodegas LAN deserves this tribute through its painstaking attention to detail, its active focus on the quality of their grapes and the skilful management of a complex system for oak ageing.

Bodegas Lan's stunning 70-hectare estate vineyard - Viña Lanciano was originally planted by the Romans on the bank of River Ebro.This privileged enclave benefits from both Atlantic and Mediterranean influence and this special climate together with pebbly soil and 40-60 years old Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano vines provides unique ingredients for the superb quality of Bodegas LAN wines.

Singular to LAN is its pioneering use of mixed oak barrels to age their wines, with the American oak enhancing the full flavour and smooth texture, while the additional use of French and Central European casks adds an extra level of complexity.

Bodegas LAN’s wines are customary recipients of fantastic reviews and accolades from Decanter, Wine Spectator and anyone else lucky enough to taste them. Most recently, Bodegas Lan Edicion Limtada was rated "top 20 wines in the world in 2007"by Wine Spectator.

Paired with Cava Brut NV Raventos Roig Crisp, dry and medium bodied Cava with ripe apple flavours and a hint of citrus fruit. 

TUNA CARPACCIO - Seared carpaccio with orange balsamic dressing

Paired with Lan Crianza 2004 Oaked for 12 months in American and French oak this smooth Rioja is elegant and refined, with ripe, black cherries flavours. Pure, satisfying finish is fruit dominated with spicy vanilla oak notes. 100% Tempranillo

PAPPARDELLE AL SUGO DI CONIGLIO - Fresh pappaerdelle pasta with rabbit ragu

Paired with Lan Reserva 2001 Soft, silky textured wine from superb 2001 vintage with concentrated raspberry and strawberry flavours. Very long finish exhibits a slight hint of exotic spices and fresh forest fruits. 80%Tempranillo, 10%Granacha, 10% Mazuelo

TAGLIATA DI MANZO CON RUCOLA ED ERBE - Grilled Sirloin steak sliced and served on a bed of rocket with fresh herbs

Paired with Bodegas Lan Edicion Limitada 2005 The estate’s flagship offering, Lan Edicion Limitada 2005, represents Rioja at its richest. Dense purple in colour, with abundant, notes of cherries, crème de cassis, blackberries, smoke, and espresso roast. This full-bodied, multilayered effort possesses a incredibly fleshy texture as well as vibrancy and complexity. 85% Tempranilo, 10% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano

FORMAGGI MISTI TOSCANI - A selection of artisan cheeses

Paired with Lan Gran Reserva 2000 Matured for 2 years in American and French barrels and further 3 years in bottle this is a superb Classic style Rioja with orange hue to the intense red cherry colour. Complex aroma of cigar box and aromatic cherries is followed by refined, concentrated fruit and subtle, velvety texture. 85% Tempranillo, 10%Mazuelo, 5%Granacha.
